Why Retort Technology Makes Our Food Better
People often ask how a Vegecore meal can sit on a shelf for months, contain no preservatives, and still taste like it was cooked fresh. The answer is a piece of food science called retort technology — and it's the reason our food is as convenient as it is good for you.
What is retort technology?
Retort processing is a method of cooking and preserving food inside its sealed pouch. Each meal is filled, sealed airtight, then heated under carefully controlled temperature and pressure until it is commercially sterile — meaning the bacteria and microbes that spoil food are eliminated. It's the same trusted principle behind canning, refined into modern, flexible, single-serve pouches.
Because the food is cooked and sealed at the same time, nothing needs to be added to keep it safe on the shelf.
Why it makes our food better
- No preservatives needed. The pouch and the process do the preserving — so there are no added preservatives in any Vegecore meal.
- No fridge, no freezer. Our meals are shelf-stable at room temperature for up to two years. Keep them in the pantry, your desk drawer, or your bag.
- Flavour and texture locked in. Cooking inside the sealed pouch traps aromas and moisture, so the rendang, sambal and curries taste deep and freshly made — not watered down.
- Genuinely convenient. Every meal is fully cooked and ready in about a minute — microwave it, drop the pouch in boiling water, or eat it straight from the bag.
- Food-safe by design. The process is backed by our ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP and HALAL certifications, so every pack meets the highest standards of safety.
Real food, real convenience
For us, retort technology isn't about cutting corners — it's the opposite. It lets us use real, whole-food ingredients like Lion's Mane and shiitake mushrooms and konjac, keep them clean and preservative-free, and still deliver authentic Malaysian flavour anytime, anywhere. No compromise: convenience and flavour, in the same pouch.
